Overview
Angelo State University, which was established in 1965, is a regional comprehensive institution of higher learning offering programs in the liberal and fine arts, sciences, teacher education, education for the health professions, and business administration. The purpose of the College of Graduate Studies is to provide advanced specialized training that strengthens the academic and professional competence of its students. The graduate programs are designed to develop students’ capacities for independent study, train students in the techniques of research, and acquaint them with research in their fields of study. Angelo State University is part of the Texas State University System.

Graduate student enrollment is approximately 450, and the total student population is 6,200. The graduate group is composed of 66 percent women, with approximately two thirds of all students attending part-time.

The Location and Community
Angelo State University is located in San Angelo, Texas (population 93,000). San Angelo, county seat of Tom Green County, is located in the heart of west Texas at the juncture of the Middle and North Concho Rivers. The city is a trading and shopping center for those in the ranching, farming, and oil industries and is an important medical and retirement center. Three lakes, a symphony orchestra, theaters, art galleries, museums, good shopping districts, proximity to the Texas hill country, and its famous friendly attitude make San Angelo an attractive place to live and study.

Programs of Study and Degree Requirements
Angelo State University offers programs in twenty-two areas of study, leading to Master of Arts, Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), Master of Education, Master of Professional Accountancy, Master of Public Administration, Master of Physical Therapy (M.P.T.), Master of Science, and Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) degrees as well as integrated B.B.A./M.B.A. (accounting), B.B.A./Master of Professional Accountancy, and RN-to-M.S.N. degrees.

Major areas of study include accounting, animal science, biology, business administration, communication, counseling psychology (with course work leading to Texas state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor or a psychological associate), curriculum and instruction, educational diagnostics, educational guidance and counseling, English (traditional research thesis and creative writing thesis options), general psychology, history, industrial/organizational psychology, interdisciplinary studies, kinesiology, nursing, physical therapy, public administration, reading specialization, school administration, and student development and leadership in higher education. Those programs in education that have Texas State Professional Certification meet the academic requirements to sit for the certification exam. The M.S.N. program is an online program.

Facilities & Resources
The Porter Henderson Library has comprehensive electronic resources, including an online catalog and a campuswide fiber-optic computer network with Internet connectivity. The total library holdings surpass 1 million items in a variety of formats. Resources include a partial depository for federal documents, a depository for Texas state documents, and the West Texas Collection, which contains numerous primary sources in the forms of diaries, journals, and memoirs of early settlers and pioneers from Texas.

The 6,000-acre Management, Instruction, and Research Center is a multipurpose agricultural production and wildlife management area. This multimillion-dollar complex includes four instructional and research laboratories for animal science, animal anatomy and physiology, animal reproduction, animal nutrition, wildlife management, wool and mohair technology, and plant and range sciences.

The graduate programs are supported by seven state-of-the-art microcomputer labs, more than 100 software packages, and a 20:1 student-computer ratio. Additional special facilities include the Small Business Development Center, International Trade Office, Language Learning Center, and school-based clinics.

Expenses and Aid
Tuition for students taking 9 semester credit hours per year is $3646 for Texas residents and $8996 for nonresidents. Additional expenses include the cost of books and supplies, parking fees, and special course fees. Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice.

Housing/Living Expenses:
Limited dormitory housing is available. Information about on-campus housing may be obtained from the Residence Life Office at 325-942-2035.

Financial Aid:
Academic Excellence Graduate Scholarships (AEGS), ranging from $800 to $5400 for the academic year, have summer extensions available and are awarded on a competitive basis to full-time or part-time graduate students. Carr Research Scholarships in the amount of $3000 plus itemized expenses up to $500 are available to support research projects.

Teaching assistantships paying $10,251 per academic year are available in some departments. Students must have completed 18 hours of graduate work in the field in which they teach and meet other criteria. Most graduate assistantships pay a maximum of $5413 per academic year, and they are available in most departments. Summer assistantships, residence hall assistantships, and student loans are also available.

How to Apply
All persons seeking admission to the College of Graduate Studies must complete and file an application and residency form, which is available on the Web or in the office of the College of Graduate Studies. An official copy of all transcripts of credits from all colleges and universities attended must be received directly from the institution(s). M.B.A. applicants must submit GMAT scores; applicants to all other programs must submit GRE scores. A $40 application fee is required of domestic students and $50 of international students. Students may apply for fall, spring, or summer admission, with the exception of Master of Physical Therapy and Master of Science in industrial/organizational psychology applicants. Applications for the M.P.T. program are accepted in the fall and spring preceding the summer when classes begin. Applications for the M.S. program have a February 1 deadline for classes beginning the following fall.
