Overview
Bowling Green, a state-assisted university, was founded in 1910. The University has a 1,250-acre campus. Graduate programs are offered in six academic colleges-Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education and Human Development, Health and Human Services, Musical Arts, and Technology-within the Graduate College. Each year, the University invites visiting scholars, guest artists, and celebrities to lecture, perform, and meet informally with students to exchange ideas and information.

The University maintains an enrollment of about 16,900 undergraduates and approximately 3,200 graduate students on the main campus. Students represent all fifty states and fifty countries. The opportunities to meet people and exchange ideas at Bowling Green are greatly enhanced by the residential nature of the campus.

The Location and Community
Bowling Green is a northwestern Ohio community, located 23 miles south of Toledo and within a 100-mile radius of Ann Arbor, Detroit, Cleveland, and Columbus. The community offers numerous recreational and cultural programs that supplement the activities offered by the University.

Programs of Study and Degree Requirements
Bowling Green State University (BGSU) offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs in American culture studies (communication, English (rhetoric), history, popular culture, and sociology), applied philosophy, biological sciences, communication disorders, English (rhetoric and writing, literature, and literature/creative writing), higher education administration, history, interdisciplinary studies, leadership studies, mathematics, photochemical sciences, psychology (clinical, developmental, experimental, industrial-organizational, and quantitative), sociology, and theater. A Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree is also offered in leadership studies. Other graduate and specialist programs include technology management (consortium degree), education specialist (administration and supervision, mathematics supervision, reading, and school psychology), and specialist in applied biology (immunohematology). Certificates are offered in ethnic studies, gerontology, and women's studies.

BGSU offers the Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) degree. The Master of Arts (M.A.) degree is offered in American culture studies, art, college student personnel, communication studies, economics, English (rhetoric and writing, literature, and literature/creative writing), French, German, guidance and counseling, history, interdisciplinary studies, mathematics, philosophy, political science (dual degree with German only), popular culture, psychology, scientific and technical communication, sociology, Spanish, teaching English as a second language, and theater. The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree is offered in American culture studies, biological sciences, chemistry, French, geology, German, history, mathematics, physics, Spanish, and theater. The Master of Arts/Science is offered in interdisciplinary studies. The Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree is offered in finance, management information systems, marketing, and supply chain management. The Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree is offered in business education; career and technology education; classroom technology; curriculum and teaching; educational administration and supervision; guidance and counseling; human movement, sport, and leisure studies (developmental kinesiology, recreation and leisure, and sport administration); interdisciplinary studies; reading; school psychology; and special education. BGSU also offers the Master of Family and Consumer Sciences (M.F.C.S.) degree. The Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree is offered in fine art and creative writing. The Master of Industrial Technology (M.I.T.) is offered in construction management and technology and manufacturing technology. BGSU also offers the Master of Music (M.M.), Master of Organization Development (M.O.D.), Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.), Master of Public Health (M.P.H.), and the Master of Rehabilitation Counseling (M.R.C.) degrees. The Master of Science (M.S.) degree is offered in applied statistics, biological sciences, chemistry, communication disorders, computer science, criminal justice, geology, and physics.

Ph.D. requirements include a minimum of 90 semester hours of graduate work beyond the baccalaureate. A minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate work beyond the baccalaureate is required for the master's degree; the choice of Plan I (thesis option) or Plan II (comprehensive examination option) is available in most programs. The Graduate College at BGSU is committed to helping students identify personal and professional goals. Facilities & Resources
The University libraries have approximately 2 million volumes and approximately 1.6 million microforms, including subscriptions to 6,000 periodicals and 600,000 government documents. In addition to providing a range of regular and specialized research facilities, the University supports a number of research centers and institutes. These include the Center for Archival Collections, the Center for Governmental Research and Public Service, the Center for Photochemical Sciences, the Center for the Study of Popular Culture, the Center for Microscopy and Microanalysis, the Institute for Great Lakes Research, the Institute for Psychological Research and Application, the Management Center, the National Drosophila Species Resource Center, the Philosophy Documentation Center, the Population and Society Research Center, the Reading Center, the Social Philosophy and Policy Center, and the Statistical Consulting Center.

Expenses and Aid
Tuition is $494 per credit hour for Ohio residents and $876 per credit hour for nonresidents. Full-time students were assessed a combined fee of $602 per semester for general and registration fees.

Financial Aid:
Departmental assistantships provided tuition scholarships and stipend payments totaling as much as $36,476 for master's assistantships and $38,517 for doctoral assistantships. About 80 percent of the University's full-time graduate students are awarded assistantship or fellowship support. Student employment and loans are available as sources of graduate student support.

How to Apply / Application
Applicants must have graduated with a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Assistantships are awarded for the academic year beginning in the fall semester. Applicants for financial aid are encouraged to complete the admission process by January 15. The application for admission to the Graduate College should be submitted with a $30 nonrefundable application fee. Students should apply six months in advance for admission to a Ph.D. program; for a master's program, three months in advance. International students should allow more time for the application process. Two official transcripts from all colleges attended are required. GRE General Test or GMAT scores must be submitted. TOEFL scores must be submitted by all applicants whose first language is not English. Three letters of recommendation must be forwarded to the department to which admission is requested.
