Overview
Founded in 1871, Central is a public university with a statewide mission in professional technology that has been fully integrated into a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum. Four colleges offer degree programs encompassing more than 150 areas of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Providing top-quality education at affordable cost is one of the institution's top priorities, as is its commitment to rigorous academic standards and thorough career preparation. The campus includes instructional buildings, residence halls, full-service dining, superb athletic facilities, and a spacious University Union. Other facilities on the 1,240-acre campus include a 300-acre recreational and biological research area with fishing lakes, a heated outdoor pool, and an 18-hole golf course; the Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport; 100,000-watt public television and radio stations; and the University Farm.

Total enrollment at Central Missouri State University is about 11,000 students, nearly 1,800 of whom are doing postgraduate work. The student-faculty ratio is 18:1. International students and ethnic minority students are encouraged to apply. Students attend the University from all fifty states and approximately sixty countries. Enrolled graduate students automatically become members of the Graduate Student Association.

The Location and Community
Central Missouri State University is located 50 miles southeast of Kansas City, in Warrensburg, Missouri. It is easily accessible by highway, bus, and passenger rail service.

Programs of Study and Degree Requirements
Central Missouri State University offers programs leading to the Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Business Administration, Master of Science, Master of Science in Education, Education Specialist, and cooperative doctoral degrees. Areas of study include accountancy, aviation safety, biology, business administration, counseling, criminal justice, curriculum and instruction, educational technology, English, history, industrial hygiene, industrial management, industrial technology, information technology, library information technology, library science and information services, literacy education, mass communication, mathematics (applied mathematics), music, occupational safety management, physical education (exercise and sport science), psychology, rural family nursing, school administration, social gerontology, sociology, special education, speech communication, speech-language pathology, student personnel administration, teaching English as a second language, technology and occupational education, and theatre. The University also offers Education Specialist degrees in administration (elementary school principalship, secondary school principalship, and superintendency), curriculum and instruction, and human services (guidance and counseling, learning resources, special education, and technology and occupational education). The two cooperative doctoral programs include the Ph.D. in technology management, with Indiana State University as the degree-granting institution, and the Ed.D. in educational leadership, with the University of Missouri-Columbia as the degree-granting institution.

Facilities & Resources
The Office of Sponsored Programs in The Graduate School provides research support for students and faculty members.

The James C. Kirkpatrick Library houses more than 2.4 million items in print and nonprint formats, CD-ROM databases, a historical children's literature collection, an online public access catalog, and a variety of information networks.

Information Services provides academic computing support using an ATM-based high-speed network with more than 2,000 attached workstations. The network is connected to a Windows NT network domain supported by a cluster of network servers for application, Web, data, and mail services. The networked environment provides Internet connectivity and is connected to an IBM 2003-115 mainframe, providing research support through products such as SAS. Information Services also provides a help desk and basic consulting services.

Expenses and Aid
Graduate tuition is $322 per credit hour for Missouri residents and $530 for nonresident students. Rates for Extended Campus are variable.

Financial Aid:
Graduate assistantships, providing a competitive stipend and waiver of graduate academic fees, are available to qualified students under the terms of a nine-month contract. Scholarships include the Graduate Student Achievement Award, the Irvin L. and Edna A. Peters Memorial Graduate Student Scholarship, the Warren C. Lovinger Graduate Student Scholarship, the President's Diversity Scholarship, and the Graduate Non-Resident Scholarship. The University participates in a full range of federal financial-aid programs, including grants, loans, and student employment.

Housing/Living Expenses:
Double rooms cost $2,555 per semester and single rooms cost $3,160 per semester. One- and two-bedroom apartments and town houses are available at prices ranging from $450 to $878 per month. The University has beautiful accommodations for students with families. Graduate students can select from various meal plan packages. An unlimited-access meal plan is $1,335 per semester.

How to Apply / Application
A nonrefundable fee of $50 is required for U.S. and international students applying for admission to a graduate program.

International Students
A vital regional source of international culture, the university’s International Center provides residents the opportunity to learn about the lives and cultures of students from countries throughout the world. Special programs introduce Missouri families to international students, encourage friendships and broaden knowledge of other cultures.

The acceptable TOEFL score for undergraduate placement in regular university classes is 173 (computer based) or 500 (paper based). The acceptable TOEFL score for graduate placement in regular university classes is 213 (computer based) or 550 (paper based). Our graduate program in Teaching English as a Second Language requires a minimum TOEFL score of 227 (computer based) or 565 (paper based).
