Overview
FIU is a public, multicampus research university and a member of the State University System of Florida. The University, designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral/Research University-Extensive, offers more than 100 graduate and advanced academic and professional degrees.

The graduate student community includes 6,500 students from all fifty states and more than 110 nations.

Graduates of the University proceed to a wide variety of academic and professional careers in academic institutions, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, private industry, and entrepreneurial enterprises.

The Location and Community
Located in suburban west Miami-Dade County, the 342-acre University Park campus is notable for its distinctive architecture, lush tropical landscape, and impressive outdoor sculpture park. The Biscayne Bay Campus is situated on 200 acres on Biscayne Bay in North Miami, which encompasses a natural mangrove preserve. FIU also operates an academic site in Pembroke Pines.

The Facilities and Resources
The libraries at University Park and the Biscayne Bay Campus house more than 1 million volumes, along with numerous periodicals, maps, microfilms, institutional archives, curriculum materials, and government documents. Access to 9,300 periodicals and serials is available. Interlibrary loan services offer access to holdings at major libraries throughout the country, and the online catalog gives information about the collections of all the libraries in the State University System of Florida. Special research centers and institutes include the following: the Academy for the Art of Teaching, the High-Performance Database Research Center, the Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology, the International Hurricane Center, the Latin American and Caribbean Center, and the Southeast Florida Center on Aging.

Expenses and Aid
The average tuition and fees for full-time, in-state graduate students is $1900 per semester. For the academic year, credit-hour fees for graduate students are $251 per credit hour for Florida residents and $860 per credit hour for out-of-state students. Tuition and fees are subject to change.

Financial Aid:
Graduate students may qualify for assistantships and fellowships and other awards that are offered through FIU's schools, colleges, and departments. To apply, students should contact the departmental dean's office. A limited number of awards are available for students who demonstrate need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The form is available at all U.S. colleges and universities.

How to Apply / Application
Applicants who have earned a bachelor or master's degree or the equivalent from a regionally accredited institution or a recognized institution of higher learning are welcome to apply. The Graduate Admissions Office must receive official transcripts, diplomas, and/or certificates directly from all previously attended institutions. Documents in a language other than English must be translated by an official translation agency. Applicants must submit GRE or GMAT scores. Students whose native language is not English must also submit TOEFL scores.
