Overview
In 1919, the Industrial Fellowship League of Flint sponsored a night school for employees of Flint-area industries. General Motors Corporation agreed to underwrite the school in 1926, and General Motors Institute was born. In 1982, GMI became independent of General Motors when the private corporation "GMI Engineering & Management Institute" was established. In January 1998, GMI changed its name to Kettering University. Kettering continues to maintain a close affiliation with industry, as it has throughout its history.

Kettering's mission is to serve society by preparing leaders to meet the technical and managerial needs of business and industry in both the public and private sectors. World renowned as America's Co-op College, Kettering focuses on practice rather than theory.

The Community
Kettering University is a private, cooperative, college located in Flint, Michigan, USA. The city offers a variety of academic, cultural, social and recreational opportunities. Bishop International Airport, just 10 miles from Kettering, offers daily flights to major U.S. cities, Europe, and Mexico. Kettering University is a technical school specializing in engineering and management. Undergraduate degrees are earned through a 100% cooperative program. Students balance their education with alternating school/work terms. At the graduate level, professional degrees for managers and engineers are earned through a videotaped, distance learning program that has been in place since 1982.

Programs of Study and Degree Requirements
Kettering's master degree programs are delivered by videotape to over 120 established industrial sites throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Sites are established when, through an agreement with the company, at least six (6) students apply and are accepted into the master degree program. Video tapes, textbooks, handouts and exams are handled at each site by an appointed coordinator. Contact with professors is through telephone, fax, and e-mail.

The MS in Manufacturing Management is strictly a part-time program. The degree may be completed in as little as two years but most students participate in a three to six year plan.
