John Preston McConnell Library is the ideal place to study and do research.

Radford is a medium-sized, coeducational, comprehensive university at which the student receives individual attention and never becomes submerged in great masses of other students. Since its first classes began in 1913, Radford has maintained a strong tradition of excellence in teaching and of attention to the needs of the individual student. Although the University has grown dramatically in recent years and has developed its programs to stay in the forefront of educational excellence, this emphasis on the student has been maintained. Of the University's total student population of 8,500, approximately 1,200 are graduate students. Of these, about two thirds are women.

The Community
The city of Radford is 45 miles southwest of Roanoke, Virginia, on Interstate Highway 81. It is located in the New River Valley between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains. Radford has a population of 15,900, but the populations of nearby Christiansburg and Blacksburg combine with Radford's to total a substantially larger number. National forests, Claytor Lake, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Appalachian Trail provide a wide range of outdoor recreational opportunities.

Programs of study
Radford University offers the Educational Specialist degree in school psychology, the Master of Fine Arts Degree in art, the Master of Business Administration degree, and the Master of Arts degree in communication sciences and disorders, criminal justice, English, music, music therapy, and psychology (clinical, counseling, experimental, and industrial/organizational). It offers the Master of Science degree in art education, communication sciences and disorders (audiology and speech and language pathology), computational sciences, corporate and professional communication, counselor education, criminal justice curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, engineering geosciences English, international economics, music education, music therapy, nursing, physical education, psychology (clinical, counseling, experimental, and industrial/organizational), reading, special education (emotionally disturbed/learning disabled and mentally retarded), and the Master of Social Work.

Requirements for the M.A. and M.S. degrees range from 30 to 48 semester hours. Most departments offer both thesis and nonthesis options. The M.B.A. requires 36 semester hours; the M.S.N. 34-48 semester hours; the M.F.A., 60 semester hours; the M.S.W., 61 semester hours; and the Ed. Spec., 71 semester hours.

Facilities & Resources
The program in communication disorders maintains a Hearing Science Laboratory and a Speech Science Laboratory for research. Graduate students in art have access to a foundry, a woodworking shop, and studios for sculpture ceramics, crafts, drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic arts, fibers, jewelry, design, and art education. Facilities for music include a recording and score collection, a computer-equipped theory laboratory, the Center for Music Technology, and an electronic music laboratory. The psychology program has animal research facilities, human-subject testing rooms, social psychology research rooms, a physiology laboratory, the Center for Neuropsychology, and computer-support resources.
