Overview
Regent University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097: Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctor’s degrees. The School of Law is fully accredited by the American Bar Association. The School of Divinity is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has conferred accreditation to the following program areas offered by the School of Psychology and Counseling of Regent University: community counseling and school counseling (M.A.).
Regent University has an enrollment of more than 2,900 students. In a typical year, this population represents all fifty states, forty-eight other countries, and more than 400 undergraduate institutions. Students range in age from 20 to 69, with the average age about 35. Approximately 50 percent are married.
The Location and Community
The main campus of stately Georgian-style buildings is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Within a 2-hour drive of Regent University are historic Yorktown, Jamestown, and Colonial Williamsburg. Richmond, the state capital, and Washington, D.C., are less than a 4-hour drive by car. The Washington, D.C., Campus in Alexandria, Virginia, is located across from the King Street metro stop. Regent University also offers programs online via its convenient, flexible Worldwide Campus.
Programs of Study and Degree Requirements
Regent University offers master’s- and doctoral-level programs in business (full-time and part-time M.B.A., Executive M.B.A., M.A. in management, graduate certificate programs, and a D.B.A.); communication and the arts (M.A. in communication [cinema-TV, theater, communication studies, script and screenwriting], M.A. in journalism, Master of Fine Arts [M.F.A.] in script and screenwriting, M.F.A. in acting, M.F.A. in acting and directing, Ph.D. in communication); divinity (Master of Arts, M.A. in missiology, M.A. in practical theology, Master of Divinity [M.Div.], Doctor of Ministry [D.Min.], Ph.D. in renewal studies); education (Master of Education [M.Ed.], TESOL Certificate, Doctor of Education [Ed.D.], Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies [C.A.G.S.] in education); government (M.A. in government, Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies [C.A.G.S.] in public policy); law (Juris Doctor [J.D.]); psychology and counseling (M.A. in counseling, M.A. in human services counseling, Certificate of Advanced Counseling Studies [C.A.C.S.], Doctor of Psychology [Psy.D.] in clinical psychology, Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision); and leadership studies (M.A. in organizational leadership, Certificate of Graduate Studies [C.G.S.] in leadership, Ph.D. in organizational leadership, Doctor of Strategic Leadership [D.S.L.], Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies [C.A.G.S.] in leadership). All programs are fully accredited and offered on the Virginia Beach Campus, online (distance education) via the Worldwide Campus, and/or at the Washington, D.C., Campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Virtually all master’s-level programs are available as joint degrees, allowing students to earn two degrees in less time.
The following programs are offered at the Washington, D.C., Campus in Alexandria, Virginia: M.B.A., M.A. in management, M.A. in practical theology, M.Ed., TESOL Certificate, M.A. in government, C.A.G.S. in public policy, M.A. in counseling, and C.A.C.S. Some programs require online courses for the completion of the degree.

Facilities & Resources
The University Library collections consist of more than 220,000 printed volumes, 700,000 microforms, and 13,000 audiovisual items, including films, CDs, laser discs, and audiocassettes and videocassettes. In addition, the library subscribes to more than 2,000 journals related to Regent’s curriculum, has access to more than 6,000 full-text journal titles online, and has close to 200 electronic indexes and 75 full-text reference or journal databases via remote access. Expenses and Aid
Tuition varies by program, as do additional fees. Tuition costs for the school year are as follows: Executive M.B.A., $935 per credit hour; M.B.A. (full-time and part-time), M.A. in management, and graduate certificate programs in business, $625 per credit hour; D.B.A., M.A. in communication, M.A. in journalism, M.F.A. in script and screenwriting, M.F.A. in acting, M.F.A. in acting and directing, and Ph.D. in communication, $800 per credit hour; Master of Arts (with concentrations in divinity), M.A. in missiology, M.A. in practical theology, M.Div., and D.Min., $375 per credit hour; Ed.D., $540 per credit hour; M.Ed., TESOL Certificate, and C.A.G.S. in education, $420 per credit hour; M.A. in government and C.A.G.S. in public policy, $550 per credit hour; M.A. in organizational leadership and C.G.S. in leadership, $445 per credit hour; Ph.D. in organizational leadership, D.S.L., and C.A.G.S. in leadership, $595 per credit hour; J.D., $700 per credit hour; M.A. in counseling, M.A. in human services counseling, and C.A.C.S., $450 per credit hour; and Psy.D. in clinical psychology and Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision, $525 per credit hour.
Financial Aid:
The University financial aid is institutionally and federally funded. More than 75 percent of the student body receives some form of financial assistance. In addition to need-based assistance grants, Regent offers scholarship awards based on academic merit, potential in the chosen area of study, professional experience, spiritual maturity, and clarity of goals. Applications for most awards are due by April 1; however, some deadlines vary. Regent participates in the Virginia state Tuition Assistance Grant Program. Graduate assistantships, campus jobs, Federal Stafford Student Loans, and alternative private education loans are also available.
Housing/Living Expenses:
The Regent Village is less than 1 mile from the campus and consists of 112 two-bedroom, one-bath apartments; 56 two-bedroom, two-bath apartments; and 56 three-bedroom, two-bath apartments. Accommodations for a single person sharing an apartment cost between $310 and $370 per month; for a married couple, between $595 and $695 per month. Rent is subject to change.
How to Apply / Application
An application packet may be requested from the mailing address below. Application requirements include submission of transcripts, graduate test scores (GRE, GMAT, LSAT, or MAT), a nonrefundable fee ranging from $30 to $100, a personal goals statement, and three recommendations (clergy, faculty, and general). Requirements vary slightly for law school applicants. Application deadlines vary by program.
International Students
Applicants whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and score a 577 (written)/ 233 (computer-based)/ 90 (internet-based) or higher to be considered for admission. Those who have taken the TOEFL and adequately scored do not need to take it again, unless it was last taken more than five years ago. Applicants who have previously taken the TOEFL and scored less than 577/233/90 may retake the test to achieve the required score. The test should include the Written Test (TWE).

• Dr. Michael Zigarelli, Dean. SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND THE ARTS
• Peter Engel, Dean. The Communication and Performing Arts Center opened in fall 2002. This state-of-the-art building features a 708-seat proscenium theater, a camera acting lab, a dance studio, a Foley sound stage, a television production studio, a back lot, film screening rooms, a 150-seat experimental theater, an aircraft cable grid, a 2,500-square-foot scenographic lab with paint floor and prop shop, two 1,200-square-foot rehearsal/performance movement classrooms, and much more.
Department of Journalism
• The M.A. in journalism offers areas of study in news journalism (print, broadcast, and Internet) and professional writing. Students may study at the Virginia Beach Campus or online via the Worldwide Campus. Research focus for the Ph.D. in communication may center on journalism.
Departments of Cinema, Television, and Theatre Arts
• These departments offer the M.A. in communication, with a concentration from the following areas: cinema and television (directing, editing, producing, animation, or critical studies), theater arts (performance studies), and script and screenwriting (writing for theater or writing for cinema-television). Also available are the M.F.A. in script and screenwriting, the M.F.A. in acting, the M.F.A. in acting and directing, and the Ph.D. in communication, with a research concentration in any of the above areas.
Department of Communication Studies
• The M.A. and Ph.D. in communication may be pursued with an emphasis in communication studies. Research areas for the Ph.D. depend upon faculty area of expertise and student interest.
SCHOOL OF DIVINITY
• Dr. Vinson Synan, Dean. The school offers the Master of Arts (M.A.), with five emphases (biblical interpretation, Christian doctrine and history, English Bible, New Testament, and Old Testament); an M.A. in missiology, with emphases in entrepreneurial tentmaking, interdisciplinary studies, ministry to Muslims, missions management, practical missiology, and TESOL; and an M.A. in practical theology, with emphases in cell church leadership, transformational leadership coaching, church and ministry, interdisciplinary studies, and worship and renewal studies. The School of Divinity also offers the Master of Divinity (M.Div.), with emphases in practical theology and missiology, and the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.), with emphases in advanced cell leadership training, clinical pastoral education, transformational leadership coaching, soul care, and leadership and renewal. The D.Min. is also available in Korea. In addition, the school offers the Ph.D. in renewal studies. The School of Divinity is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools.
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
• Dr. Alan Arroyo, Dean. The school offers the M.Ed. with eight majors: Christian school program, cross-categorical special education, educational leadership, elementary education initial licensure (optional TESOL endorsement), individualized degree plan, master teacher program, master teacher program/English as a second language, and TESOL. The Ed.D. offers seven cognates: K-12 school leadership, higher education, staff development/adult education, educational psychology, special education, distance education, and Christian education leadership. The C.A.G.S. in education and the TESOL certificate are also available.
ROBERTSON SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT
• Dr. Barry T. Ryan, Dean. The school offers a Master of Arts in government, with three concentrations: public administration, public policy, and political management as well as a Certificate of Graduate Study in public policy.
SCHOOL OF LAW
• Jeffrey Brauch, Dean. The school offers the J.D. (full- or part-time) with concentration tracks available: Virginia law, general practice, dispute resolution, commercial, public law, academic, and honors. The School of Law is accredited by the American Bar Association.
SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP STUDIES
• Kathaleen Reid-Martinez, Dean. The school offers the M.A. in organizational leadership (church and ministry, coaching and mentoring, education administration, futures studies, health-care administration, human resource studies, information systems technology, interdisciplinary studies, international organizations, manufacturing, new business development, organizational communication, organizational development consulting, philanthropic and nonprofit organizations, public executive leadership, sales management, and virtual organizations), the C.G.S. in leadership, the Ph.D. in organizational leadership, the Doctor of Strategic Leadership, and the C.A.G.S. in leadership. All degree programs are offered online via the Worldwide Campus only. The Ph.D. and D.S.L. require three residencies at the Virginia Beach Campus for completion of the degree.

• Dr. Rosemarie Scotti Hughes, Dean. The school offers the M.A. in counseling and the Certificate of Advanced Counseling Studies (C.A.C.S.), both with concentrations in community counseling or school counseling; the M.A. in human services counseling; the Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.); and the Ph.D. in education psychology.
