Robert Morris University, founded in 1921, is a four-year, private, coeducational, independent institution. It has developed a national reputation for its strong business programs and offers more than thirty-five undergraduate degrees, ten master's programs, and the Doctor of Science in information systems and communications.
Robert Morris is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Universities, the American Council on Higher Education, and the AACSBThe International Association for Management Education.
The Community
Robert Morris University has two locations. The main campus occupies 230 acres in suburban Moon Township, Pennsylvania, 17 miles northwest of downtown Pittsburgh and less than 15 minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport. Robert Morris also has a campus in downtown Pittsburgh among the nation's sixth-largest concentration of Fortune 500 corporate headquarters in the U.S. Students may also study certain programs at satellite locations in the South Hills and Cranberry areas of suburban Pittsburgh. Some graduate programs are offered exclusively at one location.
Of a student body of more than 4,500 people, 850 are enrolled in professional graduate degree programs. The average age of graduate students is 32, with an age range of 22 to 70. Women comprise almost half of the student population. Graduate students come from diverse professional and academic backgrounds.
Programs of study and degree requirements
Robert Morris University (RMU) offers the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree and the Master of Science (M.S.) degree in accounting, finance, sport management, marketing, business education, instructional leadership, communications and information systems, Internet information systems, information systems management, and taxation. Robert Morris also offers the Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree in information systems and communications.
Facilities & Resources
Facilities supporting the graduate programs at Robert Morris include nine open-access computer laboratories, two physical libraries, and an electronic library offering an array of research databases. Twenty-eight classrooms have been equipped with advanced computer and presentation technology equipment to facilitate teaching and learning. .
The University's two libraries house more than 130,000 volumes, 850 print periodicals, and a large collection of microprint, audiovisual, and government documents. The library has a state-of-the-art searchable catalog system, which was installed in 1999. The Electronic Library offers continual off-campus access to 9 major research databases. The library is a member of numerous resource-sharing consortia that greatly extend the amount of materials available to support graduate education.
Expenses and Aid
Tuition for the 2005-06 academic year in the M.B.A. program and the M.S. programs in accounting, finance, sport management, marketing, Internet information systems, and communications and information systems, and information systems management was $470 per credit hour. Tuition for the M.S. programs in instructional leadership and business education was $436 per credit hour; the M.S. in taxation was $487 per credit hour; and the D.Sc. program had a flat fee of $15,000. The doctoral fee included tuition, fees, books and supplies, lodging during residency periods, and some meals.
Housing Double-room rates were $2860 per semester, and single rooms were $3416 per semester. The doctoral program includes required residencies throughout the fall and spring terms. These residencies take place at an off-campus location, and the costs are included in the fee as indicated above.
Financial Aid Graduate loans are available for those who qualify. Students are encouraged to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Robert Morris participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program and also offers various interest-free payment plans.
How to Apply
The graduate programs admit students on a rolling basis. However, students are encouraged to submit all required materials at least two months prior to the start of their desired term of entry. Applications can be filed through the College's Web site at the address below. Students should note that the M.S. in communications and information systems and the D.Sc. program require an interview as part of the final selection process.
