College at Brockport
Brockport, New York

Overview
Student success is at the heart of the College’s mission statement: “Brockport has the success of its students as its highest priority, emphasizing student learning and committed to advancing teaching, scholarship, creative endeavors, and service." The foundation for today’s comprehensive institution was laid in 1841 with the opening of the Brockport Collegiate Institute. Over the years, the College expanded beyond its sole focus on teacher education to a comprehensive institution offering both baccalaureate and master’s programs. Since the College began sponsoring graduate education over half a century ago, the graduate alumni now number more than 12,000.

The campus includes sixty-eight buildings, professional-quality athletic fields, and open and wooded land. Recent renovations include Hartwell Hall ($10 million), which houses several departments, including the Department of Dance, with theater and performance spaces; Lennon Hall Science Complex ($20 million); and the Seymour College Union, with expanded dining facilities, 24-hour computer lab, and enhanced student activity space.

SUNY Brockport’s total enrollment for fall 2007 was 8,484 (3,558 men and 4,926 women), with a graduate student population of 1,519 (536 men and 983 women), of whom 359 (105 men and 254 women) were engaged in full-time study.

The Location and Community
SUNY Brockport’s main campus is located in the village of Brockport, 16 miles west of Rochester, New York. The College’s 435-acre campus is only 10 miles from the southern shores of Lake Ontario, with its many parks and beaches; within short driving distance of New York State’s renowned Finger Lakes; and within easy reach of area ski resorts. The College is 20 minutes by car from the Monroe County International Airport, 1 hour from Niagara Falls, and 3 hours from Toronto.
