University of Arkansas Fayetteville, Arkansas

Overview
Established in 1871, the University of Arkansas is the state’s flagship campus. The Graduate School was established in 1927 and is now benefiting from a new $100-million endowment, part of the historic $300-million gift from the Walton Family Charitable Foundation, which was announced in April 2002. The gift supports endowed fellowships and an endowed research fund for graduate students. The campus is also graced by the unique, much-loved tradition of Senior Walk. Since the University’s founding, the names of all graduates have been etched into more than 5 miles of campus sidewalks, their names arranged by year of graduation.
In 2007-08, the University enrolled 2,796 graduate students and 410 law students. Fayetteville’s 345-acre campus is home to students from all counties in Arkansas, every state in the U.S., and more than 100 countries throughout the world. Total University enrollment for 2007-08 was16,535 students and included a diverse student population, with 892 international students representing 107 countries. The University has targeted advanced-degree enrollment to grow to 5,500 by 2010.
The Location and Community
Fayetteville is nestled in the Ozark Mountains and is accessible to major metropolitan amenities, making it an excellent place for a well-balanced college experience. The community has a population of more than 60,000. Business Week magazine ranked Fayetteville as one of the “Dazzling Dozen” small cities in the United States.
