Timely research and hands-on learning build knowledge of specific business functions and interwoven themes of globalization, technology, and venture creation. The master’s program—one of the best in the nation according to Business Week—is in the top 8 percent of the 900 U.S. business schools.

In 2004-05, the entering M.B.A. class was 48 percent women. About 46 percent had undergraduate degrees in business. The average age was 28.

The Location and Community
Cincinnati is a wonderful city with a mild climate and numerous recreational and cultural attractions. It is also an exceptional business town. The vast majority of Fortune 500 companies have offices in Ohio, and students benefit from the University’s close ties to the business community.

Programs of Study and Degree Requirements
At the University of Cincinnati (UC), the College of Business’s M.B.A. program is recognized for its excellence by prominent publications such as Business Week, Time, and the Princeton Review. Course perspectives are practical, application oriented, and taught in a sequence that helps students develop a broad working knowledge of the business world while honing their analytical skills. The program, which can be completed in a single year, emphasizes the development of effective communication skills and the importance of ethical standards in the decision-making process.

The full-time program offers three options—twelve-month, fifteen-month, and twenty-one-month—for full-time study. The first two programs provide internship opportunities, while the M.B.A./M.S. joint-degree program includes accounting, information systems, and quantitative analysis options. The twelve-month program is intended for professionals who want to develop the management skills, perspectives, and analytical tools that are necessary for assuming greater management responsibilities and quickly reenter their field. The fifteen-month option is ideal for students seeking to improve their job market prospects by obtaining specialized work experience. The twenty-one-month program is intended for students seeking a high degree of rigorous specialization in addition to an applied general management education. All full-time students start in the fall quarter.

The part-time program offers many options to serve the needs of fully employed professionals—evening programs on the Clifton campus and in Blue Ash, at the Blue Ash Professional Development Center, as well as a mid-day program at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. These programs are taught by the same faculty members and offer the same support services as the full-time program. Flexible scheduling and course delivery are tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals who want to continue their careers while obtaining their degree. Each program is designed so that students can complete their degree in approximately twenty-four months.

Facilities & Resources
In fall 2001, the College of Business opened a state-of-the-art videoconferencing classroom in Carl H. Lindner Hall, a case-style, tiered room that seats forty people and can connect to virtually any videoconferencing facility worldwide. The College of Business’s global business videoconferencing program offers three or four courses each year that are co-taught with international partners. The Center for Productivity Improvement (CPI) focuses research on the development of systems and technologies that improve the competitive position of sponsoring firms and organizations. CPI has access to the latest in computer equipment and software, including statistical-analysis software, such as SAS, SPSS-X, BMDP, and Minitab. Software for mathematical programming (e.g., CPLEX, AMPL, MPSX, and Lindo), simulations (e.g., Arena and ProModel), and other uses is also available. Other centers include the Distance Learning Center, Economics Center for Education and Research, Goering Center for Family and Private Business, Real Estate Center, Total Quality Management Center, Center for Entrepreneurship Education and Research, Small Business Institute®, and Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

Expenses and Aid
In 2004-05, quarterly tuition and fees totaled $4881 for Ohio residents and $6039 for nonresidents. Part-time students paid $425 per credit hour, including tuition and fees.

Financial Aid:
The University of Cincinnati offers various financial aid programs. A limited number of tuition scholarships are reserved for qualified master’s students and are based on academic performance, GMAT score, and years of work experience, without regard to financial need. All full-time prospective students submitting an application prior to February 15 are automatically considered for financial aid. This aid may be in the form of fellowships or scholarships, which require no service to the college. Several need-based financial assistance programs are also available to graduate students. Eligibility is determined through the needs analysis system required by the federal government.

Housing/Living Expenses:
Off-campus housing ranged from $512 to $730 a month and included utilities in 2004-05. A list of available apartments is available online.

How to Apply / Application
Application for the M.B.A. program is open to any student with an undergraduate degree, regardless of their field of study. Admission is selective and is based on a combination of factors, including academic and professional achievement, performance on a standardized test (GMAT), strong communication skills (both oral and written), and a proven record of effective leadership and team work experience. College-level calculus is required of all applicants.

Students must submit the completed application, all academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, GMAT scores, and essays. International applicants must also submit TOEFL scores (at least 250 computer-based or 600 paper-based). A decision is made two to three weeks after the Admissions Committee receives the completed application. The application deadline for the full-time program is February 1 for international students, February 15 for early admission, and April 30 for all students. Part-time program applicants must submit their applications by August 1 for the fall quarter, November 1 for the winter quarter, and February 15 for the spring quarter.
