Overview
The University of San Diego is an independent, Roman Catholic university that was founded in 1949. The University comprises five academic schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business, School of Leadership and Education Sciences School of Law, and School of Nursing and Health Science. Class size averages 18 students, facilitating close rapport with faculty members.

The student population is approximately 7,260, including approximately 1,475 graduate and 1,025 law students. Students come from all over the U.S., and international students represent about 8 percent of the graduate enrollment.

Graduate degree recipients report employment in areas related to their fields of study. For example, in the College of Arts and Sciences, students with international relations degrees secured employment in international business, teaching, and corporate relations; practical theology degrees led to teaching, campus, and catechetical ministries. School of Business graduates were hired in areas such as e-commerce, finance development, project management, and supply chain management. School of Leadership and Education Sciences graduates are employed in teaching at all levels and in counseling, administrative, nonprofit management, and consulting careers. School of Nursing graduates entered clinical, educational, and research settings as well as advanced degree programs.

The Location and Community
San Diego, a city of more than 1 million people, is the second-largest city in California and sixth largest in the country. Just 30 minutes north of the border with Mexico, it offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountains. USD’s 180-acre campus provides access to business, cultural, residential, and recreational areas by its proximity to air and rail terminals, city bus stops, and freeways.

Programs of Study and Degree Requirements
The University of San Diego (USD) offers programs leading to both doctoral and master’s degrees. The College of Arts and Sciences offers the M.A. in history, international relations, pastoral care and counseling, and peace and justice studies. A Certificate of Advanced Studies in pastoral counseling is offered for licensed health and mental health care givers. A joint-degree program leading to the J.D./M.A. in international relations is also offered in conjunction with the USD School of Law. The Globe Theatre/University of San Diego Professional Actor Training Program offers an M.F.A. in dramatic arts. The M.S. is offered in marine science, a research-based thesis program, with opportunities for research in biological, physical, chemical, and geological oceanography for students with a bachelor’s degree in natural science.

The School of Business Administration offers the M.B.A. degree, with areas of emphasis in accountancy and financial, e-commerce, finance and banking, general management, information management, international management, IT management, marketing, operations management, project management, supply chain management, technology management, and venturing and venture capital. The M.B.A. offers both a part- and full-time option. The International Master of Business Administration (I.M.B.A.) degree is also offered as a separate program. A dual-degree program is available in conjunction with the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Mexico. Joint-degree programs leading to the J.D./M.B.A., M.S.N./M.B.A., and J.D./I.M.B.A. are offered in conjunction with the USD School of Law or School of Nursing and Health Science. Other degree programs include the M.S. in accountancy and financial management, executive leadership, global leadership, supply chain management, and real estate. The business administration programs are fully accredited by AACSB International-The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

The School of Leadership and Education Sciences offers the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in leadership studies and has a joint doctoral program (Ed.D.) with San Diego State University. The school awards the M.A. in marital and family therapy, leadership studies, and counseling. The M.A. program in marital and family therapy is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). The Master of Arts in Teaching is also available. The Master of Education is awarded in learning and teaching and in educational leadership/administration. The University is authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) to recommend candidates for credentials at USD in multiple subject, multiple subject (bilingual emphasis), CLAD and BCLAD certificates, preliminary administrative services, single subject, pupil personnel services in school counseling, special education (mild/moderate, moderate/severe), and the early childhood special education certificate.

The Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science offers the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing/Master of Science in Nursing (B.S.N./M.S.N.) for registered nurses, a Master’s Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) for non-RNs, the Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.), a joint-degree program combining the Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Nursing (M.B.A./M.S.N.), and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in nursing. The School Nurse Health Services Credential, Post-Master’s Health Care Systems Certificate, and Post-M.S.N. Nurse Practitioner Certificate are also offered. The M.S.N. program prepares family, pediatric, and adult nurse practitioners and nurse administrators for a variety of health-care settings and prepares nurse case managers for specific client groups in acute, long-term community, and home-health settings.

The School of Law offers the Juris Doctor (J.D.); Master of Law (LL.M.) in business and corporate law, comparative law, international law, and taxation; and Master of Laws (LL.M.) general as well as the joint-degree programs mentioned above.

Facilities & Resources
Copley Library features more than 714,080 books and 10,450 current journal subscriptions as well as newspapers, government documents, reference books, rare books, and access to many databases. The Media Center has an extensive audiovisual collection. The Legal Research Center in the School of Law maintains a collection in excess of 450,000 volumes.

Expenses and Aid
For the academic year, master’s and credential tuition costs were $1,490 per semester unit. Doctoral tuition costs are $1,505 per semester unit.

How to Apply / Application
Application for admission is made to the Office of Graduate Admissions. There are several different applications, depending on the program, and most are available online, through the graduate admissions Web site. All applicants must submit the application form, application fee, one official copy of all postsecondary transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and applicable standardized test scores. Application deadlines vary. Students should contact Graduate Admissions for program deadlines. Applications for financial aid should be received by May 1 for the fall semester; however, applications are accepted during the year for any portion of the year remaining.

International Students
The University has established its International Student Program under the Foreign Student Program (F-1 visa) as authorized by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS). Under this program students who are not U.S. citizens and whose previous education has been wholly or partially completed in a foreign country may apply for admission.
