Overview
Established in 1891, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is one of the three original institutions of The University of North Carolina System. It is a public, coeducational, doctoral granting institution composed of approximately 12,500 students, 2,700 of whom are graduate students. While the majority of students are from North Carolina, students also come from forty different states and forty-three foreign countries; minority enrollment is approximately 17 percent. The UNCG faculty is composed of more than 700 members dedicated to excellence in teaching and research; ninety-three percent hold doctoral degrees. The School of Education at UNCG was recently ranked among the top 50 schools of education in the nation by US News and World Report and is one of just two Carnegie-designated, doctoral granting institutions to achieve this ranking. The Community
The University is located in a region of north central North Carolina known as the Triad. The region's three principal cities are Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point, and together with the surrounding counties, the three cities comprise a metropolitan statistical area of almost 1.2 million people. The area is one of mild climate, natural beauty, and diverse industry. Greensboro is North Carolina's third largest city, with a population of approximately 200,000. The city offers a variety of cultural activities including museums, opera, ballet, the symphony, and the University's own Weatherspoon Gallery which boasts an impressive collection of modern art. The Blue Ridge mountains to the west and Atlantic beaches to the east are within a few hours drive. The campus itself is composed of 170 acres and nearly eighty buildings with brick walkways and flowering trees spread throughout.

Programs of Study and Degree Requirements
The University is organized into the College of Arts and Sciences and six professional schools: Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics, School of Education, School of Health and Human Performance, School of Human Environmental Sciences, School of Music, and School of Nursing. Master's Degrees (M.A., M.A.L.S., M.B.A., M.Ed., M.F.A., M.L.I.S., M.M., M.P.A., M.P.H., M.S., M.S.A., M.S.B.E., M.S.N., or M.S.W.) are offered in more than sixty specializations; three doctoral degrees (Ph.D., Ed.D., and D.M.A.) are offered in fifteen areas of study. Post-master's certificates are offered in advanced studies in business administration and international studies in business administration; gerontological counseling; marriage and family counseling; school counseling; adult nurse practitioner/gerontological nurse practitioner; and nurse anesthesia. Post-baccalaureate certificates are offered in nursing administration, nursing case management, gerontological nursing, nursing education, and gerontology.

Facilities and Resources
Research facilities are substantial and continue to grow. Library holdings total more than two million, in addition the University draws on the nearby libraries of Duke University, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University in Raleigh. UNCG supports computer systems ranging from a large DEC VAXcluster to a variety of personal computers; a campus computer network provides access to the Internet and other major networks.The School of Music building includes a 350 seat recital hall, 130 seat organ recital hall, an electric piano library, and a computer theory laboratory.

In-state resident: $1,499 per semester for a full course load
Out-of-state resident: $8,981 per semester for a full course load

Housing
Housing and board is available on campus for unmarried students. The projected cost for a double room and fifteen meals per week for the academic year is approximately $5,500. Most graduate students live off campus where apartments and houses can be rented for reasonable rates.

Financial Aid
Financial support for graduate students is offered through a variety of sources: University fellowships; departmental assistantships; fellowships and other awards through federal, state, and private grants; veteran's benefits; and student loans. Other sources include resident assistantships, campus recreation assistantships, and hourly paid campus jobs. The Greensboro Graduate Scholars program provides fellowships ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 as a special add-on to a regular graduate, research or teaching assistantship. The Minority Presence Grant Program for Doctoral Study provides stipends of $4000 for the academic year for African-American residents of North Carolina. Recipients must be full-time students pursuing a doctoral degree at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The Incentive Scholarship and Grant Program for Native Americans provides funding for North Carolina resident Native Americans who belong to an Indian tribe recognized by North Carolina or the federal government, and are full-time doctoral students.

How to Apply / Application
Early application is encouraged. Many programs have specific deadlines for fall admission only. A completed application form, three letters of recommendation, transcripts of earlier work, and, in most cases, appropriate entrance examination test scores are required for consideration. The graduate application fee is $35.
